Dr. Ryan Mercer is a cornea and refractive surgery specialist who also manages complex eye conditions, including glaucoma and medical retina. He offers advanced cataract and refractive lens procedures with a full range of intraocular lens options tailored to each patient.
In addition to laser-assisted cataract surgery, Dr. Mercer performs laser vision correction and implantable collamer lens (ICL) surgery for appropriate candidates. He has extensive expertise in corneal transplantation and specializes in CTAK, CAIRS, and corneal cross-linking for keratoconus. His work has received international recognition, including runner-up honors at the 2026 ASCRS Film Festival in the New Surgical Techniques category.
Dr. Mercer takes a comprehensive, individualized approach to dry eye care and provides advanced medical and surgical management of glaucoma and select retinal conditions.
He completed his Cornea and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he also earned his medical degree, and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri. During his training, he contributed to peer-reviewed research and developed expertise in advanced surgical techniques, including the Yamane technique for aphakia.
A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Dr. Mercer graduated summa cum laude from Clemson University with a 4.0 GPA in Biochemistry.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys medical mission work, national parks, and baseball, and values time with his wife and children. He strives to honor Christ in all that he does.
